Villajoyosa Alicante: Villajoyosa is a seaside town on the River Amadorio in the Alicante province of Valencia in south-eastern Spain (Costa Blanca), it is near to the well known resort of Benidorm. Villajoyosa (or La Vila Joiosa) is the capital of the Marina Baixa district of Alicante and is located about thiry two kilometres from Alicante city. The name means “Joyful Village”, locals just call it “La Vila”. Villajoyosa has some 3 kilometres of sandy beaches, the best and most popular being the Platja Centre. A number of hotels and apartment blocks are gathered around this area. The town is famous for its chocolate industry, and trips to the local chocolate factory are among the popular excursions from surrounding resorts. Among the other popular local attractions in Villajoyosa are the Royal Palm Casino, the Gothic Catholic church, with its stunning Baroque altar piece, and the harbour where multi-coloured houses and the trademark of the town. Great events in Villajoyosa include the famous Moors and Christian festival. While maybe not so popular as nearby Benidorm, Villajoyosa has its own tourist industry and splendid weather, good beaches and handy location are amongst its biggest attributes.
